Avoiding Collisions

Accident rates for new riders are significantly higher for experienced riders, some of which is because there are some things to watch for.

Anticipating what an automobile is going to do is key for a rider’s safety.

-If you are coming up to an intersection you know people decide that they need to turn at the last minute and change lanes with little notice. When you are on the highway the same things happen, but the driver of the automobile is changing lanes without much notice in an attempt to take their exit; prepare for this.

-Cell phones, it is simple, when you see someone talking on their cell phone get significant distance between you and them. Most likely they are not paying attention.

-When you are driving on a road where automobiles are coming out of a business parking lot; if you watch the cars wheels you can see when they take their foot off the brake. So you know the next thing that they are planning on doing is stepping on the gas, make sure that they see you.

For new riders, be cautious and assume that no one knows you are there.
