The Downside of Tons of Vendors Part I

Vendors at a motorcycle rallies are important to generate money for the promoters and to have enough motorcycle products and services offered at the rally to keep attendees happy, but often promoters forget that vendors need to be able to make enough money to justify coming to their rally. So the number and quality of vendors at a rally becomes an interesting balancing act for promoters.

For promoters, being able to state that they have a larger number of vendors helps promote their rally and to generate money from selling more vendor spots. The downside is that when a rally allows a bunch of small businesses where some sell inferior products as compared to the larger companies; the larger companies that provide quality products and bring their big rigs or that have larger booths simply can’t afford to go to rallies.

Promoters need to have happy attendees and for many rally goers, the rally is a time for them to be able to see all of the products firsthand that they have either seen on the web, in magazines or have heard about from friends. Without manufacturers and major distributors there are fewer different products to be viewed and this ends up with some attendees being unhappy.

So although the promoter might make more money this year in booth sales, they might find that this short-term strategy backfires because they lose money from having attendees not coming back.
