Tim “The Frogman” Cotterill is the designer and owner of this beast of a custom trike that boasts over 1,000 hp! Here is a little history on Cotterill: he was born in England and six years after dropping out of public school, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
Not only does he have mechanical talent, but he is also a very accomplished sculptor. His sculptures of animals are how he has made a good living and bankrolled the Rocket II trike. Cotterill’s focus in sculpting shifted from birds to frogs, thus the origin of his nickname, “The Frogman.”
As the “II” indicates, this was not the first “Rocket” trike. In the late 80’s, he designed and built his first custom trike using an engine from a Honda CBX 1000. It wasn’t until some years later, and after he moved to the U.S., that he found builders who could build the Rocket II he had been thinking of for years. In 2006, he met the Blastolene Brothers, Michael Leeds and Randy Grubb, who build creations for the likes of Jay Leno. They were able to translate his concept for a trike into reality.
It not only has a unique design artistically, but the Rocket II’s powerplant is also one of only fifty 426 Hemi engine blocks cast. With several other modifications, the trike yields over 1,000 horsepower. Add in a three-speed transmission and the Rocket II earns its name with a 0-100mph time of 4.5 seconds and an unknown top-speed.
There is a Rocket III being designed, but for now, here are some pictures and videos of the Hemi-powered Rocket II trike. Let us know what you think on social media.
