Whether it is because you live in, have ridden in, or plan to ride in a state that has mandatory motorcycle-only checkpoints or just want to help end the discrimination against those of us who ride on two wheels, here is an opportunity to let your voice be heard.
Earlier this year, the “Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act” was introduced into the Senate by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Susan Collins (R-ME). The bill would “prohibit the Secretary of Transportation (DOT) from providing a grant or any funds to a state, county, town, township, Indian tribe, municipality, or other local government for any program to 1) check motorcycle helmet use or 2) create motorcycle checkpoints that specifically target motorcycle operators or motorcycle passengers.”
Since states use funds from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to pay for these checkpoints, if this bill is passed it will put an end to these motorcycle-only checkpoint laws. Whatever your opinion is, you can give your input on this bill by Contacting Your Senator.
