Moto Guzzi California 1400 is a symbol of beauty and luxury, the world ambassadors for the Italian Moto Guzzi brand. At this year’s Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA 2012), Piaggio, the owner of Guzzi, has presented both the new California 1400 Touring (above) and its custom version—1400 Custom. I featured the prototype of the 2013 California in March and our readers loved what they saw.
According to Piaggio, the new Moto Guzzi California 1400 has the largest V-Twin engine ever produced by a European manufacturer—a redesigned, four-valve 90-degree 1380cc V-Twin with 95 hp at 6500 rpm and 88.5 ft-lb. at 2750 rpm. The engine has a claimed improved fuel economy of 15-20%, though its larger that its 1151cc predecessor.
Other features of the new California 1400 include a six-speed transmission (the old model uses a five-speed gearbox) and a three-level traction control. Both the touring and the custom versions come with Moto Guzzi cruiser with ride-by-wire technology that allows the rider to choose from three engine management mappings: Turismo (Touring), Veloce (Fast) and Bagnato
