“The missing Link between a Schwinn and a Ducati” reads the text on the storefront of Derringer Cycles Inc, another company that makes custom motorized bicycles that can be propelled entirely either by pedaling or twisting of the throttle. But these motorbikes are all custom-built and each bike is truly unique. There’s no off-the-shelf model—you have to contact a representative. Each bike’s unique components can include “hammered copper rivets, hand-made leather saddles, and white tires manufactured without the use of carbon black.”
Derringer Cycles can get you 180 miles per gallon with their 49cc four-cycle engine, which meets the strict CARB tier 3 emissions standards. The gas tank holds 1.8 gallons—380 miles on one fill-up. Derringer Cycles are designed by industrial designer Adrian Van Anz who started the company in 2007.
