The Dakar Rally is an annual event of off-road endurance races organized by the French media group Amaury Sport Organisation. Since its beginning, most Dakar Rally events started from Paris, France and ended in Dakar, Senegal. But since 2009, the events have taken place in South America—Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Currently racers compete in three major groups Bikes (motorcycles), Quads, Cars, and Trucks. Both amateur and professional racers compete in Dakar Rally events. Competitors go through different stages, and with every stage they cover a distance of up to 500–560 miles a day.
Vehicle manufacturers sponsor Dakar race teams, riders and drivers to promote and test their products. Motorcycle manufacturers that competed in Dakar events include KTM, Yamaha, Honda, and BMW.
