Kickboxer Diesel and Kickboxer AWD Diesel Motorcycle Concepts
Custom bike builder Ian McElroy is known for creating the Kickboxer concept motorcycles. In 2009, motorcycle bloggers loved his first Kickboxer concept that was powered by a turbocharged Subaru WRX engine. Last year, McElroy was back with two new versions of the Kickboxer—the Kickboxer Diesel finished in matte black and bright orange and the Kickboxer Diesel AWD in matte black and blue.
McElroy built the Kickboxer Diesel concept around a Subaru Boxer turbodiesel engine as a more compact and cost-efficient version of the original Kickboxer. In addition to its spectacular bright color finish, the Kickboxer Diesel features lightweight bodywork, front-mounted intercooler, under-the-engine turbocharger, and under-the-seat radiator.
“I designed the model to be accurate and realistic enough to build a real bike from. If I had the money I could take the CAD files straight to a machinist, and have the parts made today,” said McElroy in an interview.
After he created the Kickboxer Diesel, McElroy decided to create another version of the bike that includes an all-wheel-drive—the Kickboxer Diesel AWD. The power of this bike is transmitted to the front wheel using two chains, a jack shaft, an idler sprocket, and a drive axle with a U-joint.
