A 1929 Brough Superior SS100 (“Rolls Royce of motorcycles”) is the most expensive motorcycle sold at auction and the most expensive vintage motorcycle. The World Record was set in October 2010, when European auctioneer H&H sold a 1929 Brough Superior SS100 at England’s Haynes International Motor Museum for £286,000 (about $456,799). The vintage bike was sold to an anonymous buyer.
The Brough Superior SS100 was one of the fastest motorcycles in its time. It reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. The original SS100 was designed and built in 1924 by George Brough of Nottingham, England. Each of the 69 bikes produced in the following year was customized according to customer requirements. With a price tag of £170, a luxury price at that time, the SS100 bikes were advertised as the “Rolls Royce of Motorcycles”.
