Why Vance & Hines?
Great look and sound. Our biker followers on Facebook, most of them Harley-Davidson riders, prefer Vance & Hines exhausts for their great look and sound. Whether Shortshots, Longshots, Straightshots, or slip-ons, sound seems to be the number one reason. Now, let’s take a look at the history of this brand.
Vance & Hines History
The company Vance & Hines was established in 1979 in Santa Fe Springs, California by Hall-of-Fame drag racer Terry Vance and motorcycle builder Byron Hines. With 14 national drag racing championship, Terry Vance was the most popular rider in the sport of motorcycle drag racing in the late 1970s and 1980s. At 16 Vance started racing his Honda at the local drag strip. He was a natural, winning race after race, and became professional in 1972. In 1977, Vance began racing for R.C. Engineering with their Top Fuel Suzuki. Byron Hines was part of the team that built Vance’s bike. Vance and Hines quickly became best friends and later the most famous pair in drag racing.
Vance recalled once, “We began to think the best thing to do was to save our money so we could go into business for ourselves.” The two started Vance & Hines as a custom engine shop. The business quickly grew into the premier maker of high-performance exhaust systems for racing and street-legal motorcycles. Vance & Hines sponsored numerous club-racing events and fielded racing teams for Suzuki, and later Yamaha and Ducati.
In 2003, Vance & Hines was acquired by the Motorcycle Aftermarket Group, Inc.—a family of leading brands of aftermarket motorcycle parts. Terry Vance, however, is still involved in the business.
Today Vance & Hines offers motorcycle exhaust systems, fuel systems and air intake systems for American V-twins, metric cruisers, sport bikes, and dirt bikes (Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Ducati, and KTM).
