Weird and Creative Motorcycle Helmets (Part 1)

Motorcycle helmets often serve as blank canvases for artists. Eye-catching graphics are just the beginning. Here you’ll find some of the weirdest motorcycle helmets we found. Some are DOT approved. Others are novelty helmets, which are worn for show or to mislead authorities about compliance with mandatory helmet laws.

Brain Buckets

You’ve heard the term “brain bucket”—here are some brain buckets  from an unknown artist.

Lego Motorcycle Helmet

This Lego motorcycle helmet  is the work of designer Sebastian Errazuriz.

Kill-Self Motorcycle Helmet

Here’s another piece from Sebastian Errazuriz. I bet that’s not a DOT-approved motorcycle helmet.

Brazilian-Art Motorcycle Helmets

These helmets are made by a Brazilian artist/entrepreneur who sells them on Craigslist, $99 per piece. The artist decorates plain DOT-helmets with fangs, hair, and stones.

Star-Wars Motorcycle Helmet

This is a motorcycle helmet made for fans of Star Wars. It is made to look like the mask of Star Wars character Boba Fett—a bounty hunter.

Russian Sturgis 2010 Stars Vladimir Putin

Putin—Judo Uniform, Pilot Gear, Hunting Gear…Now Biker Gear and a Harley

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin rode a Haley-Davidson tricycle during “the Russian Sturgis” 2010 which took place last week in Sevastopol, Ukraine. Putin wore a black shirt with rolled up sleeves, black jeans, and sunglasses as he rode along a dusty road toward a stage.

From the stage, Putin called his tricycle “iron growler” and addressed the biker-rally participants as “brothers.” Putin also said that motorcycles are “the most democratic form of transport…a symbol of freedom.”

“The Russian Sturgis”

“The Russian Sturgis,” called Bike Show Sevastopol is a biker rally held every year in Sevastopol, Ukraine. This year the motorcycle rally brought together nearly 5,000 bikers, mostly from Europe.

The Oldest Russian Biker Club

Among the organizers of the event is the Moscow biker club Night Wolves MC. The President of the Wolves, Aleksandr Zaldostanov (“the Surgeon”), is the biker who rides along with Putin in the first picture above. Putin and Zaldostanov met last year, when Putin visited the Wolves’ clubhouse. The Night Wolves MC, founded in 1989, was the first biker club in the former USSR and the first in the Russian Federation.
